Storytella allows you to grow and edit your book easily using its Editor and Entity functionality detailed below.

The Editor

The Editor is where you lay words down on the page. It allows you to free write, edit and amend. The Editor also provides you with a multitude of features to support the creative writing process.

Inserting Entities

There are two primary ways you can insert an Entity:

With quick keys

Ctrl+Space will bring up a drop down list of your Entities and the Properties associated with that Entity. You can use your cursor keys to select the one you want to use.

Using Syntax

You can insert Entities manually with keyboard commands — simply write out the original Syntax of the Entity between double braces. The brace symbol looks like this {. You should use two of these at the beginning and end of the text you want to insert. The Entity name and Property name need to be separated by a period ie. {{EntityName.Propertyname}}

You can also use this method to insert an Entity into a title field when creating new chapters.

If you insert text that isn’t recognised as an Entity or a Property but is in the correct format it will appear as if it is a missing Entity, meaning it will be highlighted in yellow in the Chapter editor and red in the Chapter view.

If you enter Syntax that is incorrect 1 of 2 things will happen:

  1. If you forgot the double braces at the beginning of the text Storytella will think you’re entering regular text.
  2. If you forgot the double braces at the end of the text Storytella will assume you’re trying to add a TODO and the rest of the content will be highlighted in yellow.
